We support the people who support people.

Village Resiliency helps educators, organizations, and community professionals create healthier environments for the people they serve.

Our work brings together trauma-informed practice, equity, neurobiology, and resilience to help people better understand human behavior, strengthen relationships, and build environments where people can thrive.

OUR MISSION

Healthy people need healthy environments.

Village Resiliency exists to help communities develop and sustain environments rooted in equity, safety, connection, and wellness.

Through education, guidance, coaching, and ongoing support, we help individuals and organizations understand how trauma, stress, relationships, identity, and systems affect the way people learn, work, lead, and connect.

Our approach integrates trauma-informed principles, anti-oppressive practice, current understandings of neurobiology, and resilience to support meaningful individual and organizational change.

OUR PURPOSE

Turning understanding into everyday practice.

Knowing more about trauma and equity matters. Knowing what to do with that understanding matters too. We equip educators, leaders, professionals, teams, and organizations to:

  • Understand how trauma and chronic stress affect the brain, body, and behavior

  • Recognize and respond to trauma-related behaviors with greater clarity and care

  • Create safer, more inclusive classrooms, workplaces, and organizations

  • Better support students, colleagues, clients, and community members impacted by trauma

  • Strengthen resilience and develop practices that reduce burnout

  • Build cultures where equity and wellness are reflected in everyday decisions, relationships, and systems

WHAT SHAPES OUR WORK

People are more than the behavior we see. Behavior rarely tells the whole story.

Our work invites people to look beneath the surface and consider what may be happening in the brain, body, relationships, environment, and systems surrounding a person.

Village Resiliency draws from four interconnected areas:

TRAUMA-INFORMED PRACTICE
Understanding how trauma and chronic stress can shape behavior, relationships, learning, and work

NEUROBIOLOGY
Using what we know about the brain and nervous system to better understand ourselves and one another.

EQUITY + ANTI-OPPRESSIVE PRACTICE
Examining how identity, culture, power, and systems shape people's experiences and the environments we create.

RESILIENCE + WELLNESS
Developing individual and collective practices that support sustainable, healthy communities.

OUR ROOTS

This work began in the therapy room.
It couldn't stay there.

Village Resiliency grew out of Sankofa Counseling, a mental health clinic in Portland, Oregon.

Again and again, the work revealed that healing doesn't happen in isolation. People return to classrooms, workplaces, organizations, families, and communities that profoundly shape their well-being.

Village Resiliency grew from a desire to bring what we know about trauma, healing, resilience, and human behavior into those environments, equipping the people who shape them every day.
